Career Next Steps | ProductiveandFree

When you’re an ambitious person, you may find that you’re constantly working on the next thing. Regardless of what you want to do with your life or the lifestyle you want to build for yourself, you may be thinking of what your next move is. But it’s not always easy to figure that out or know what you want to do. So, to help you change that, we’re now going to take a look at some of the ideas you might want to apply to your career next.

Setting Career Goals

First of all, you need to make sure that you are focusing on setting career goals for yourself. When you’re not sure where you want to go next or you’re starting to get an idea, setting goals gives you something to work toward. Not only that, but you may also find that it helps you to then focus on creating an action plan and coming up with the different steps you may need to follow to get to where you want to be.

Focusing on Your Studies

As you’re starting to get a clearer idea of what you want to achieve, it may be the case that you then want to start studying. If you’re someone who wants ot move into a specific field, getting the right qualifications like a bachelors of science in computer engineering, for example, is key. That way, you have the degree to show that you are educated in the technical field of computer engineering and can start applying for jobs. So, depending on what you want to do, you need to seek out the right educational pathway.

Building Experience

The next thing you need to do here is focus on building some experience. Some jobs will expect you to have some kind of experience before you get started. This can seem tough when you’re just starting out. However, getting work experience, an internship, or looking to work your way up from the bottom can be a great idea.

Advancing in Your Field

Then, you may want to think about advancing. You may have mapped this out in your initial career plan and goal setting exercise. However, when your career is underway, you may find that the next thing you really want to do is advance. This might mean applying for a promotion or even moving companies to progress.

Pivoting or Changing Careers

Or it may even be the case that you’re ready for a change! If you are no longer in love with your career choice or you’re wondering if you even went into the right thing in the beginning, getting started with a change could be just the thing for you. As humans, we grow and evolve. So even if something felt right for you in the beginning, you may find that you want to shake things up and do something that feels more aligned to the person you are now. This could mean pivoting into a different field or industry or completely changing what you do for a career!
