Sometimes the problem with a commercial building is not that it looks awful. It’s worse in a way, because it looks fine enough for everyone to keep ignoring it. Which, sure, sounds weird, but bear with the explanation for a moment, though. So, the sign still works, the entrance still opens, the walls are still standing, the car park still fills up, and technically, nothing is broken enough to force a decision. But from the outside, the place can still feel like it belongs to an older version of the business.

That’s the awkward part. A company can update its branding, improve its service, hire better staff, change the whole customer experience inside, and still have a building that looks like it missed the memo. And no, that doesn’t always mean tearing it all down and starting again, unless you’re a giant business, the chances are high you can’t afford that anyway.

But generally speaking, though, one major part of the customer experience is the building itself, because it’s the first thing they see before stepping inside.

Just Walk Up to the Building Like a New Customer Would

Well, for starters, here, the people who see a building every day stop noticing things. Like the faded sign becomes normal. That tired entryway becomes normal. The patchy exterior paint, the old wall finish, the awkward lighting by the door, all of it sort of blends into the background. But you get the point, the dirt, the cracks, and the ugliness are so normal to them.

But a new customer doesn’t have that same blindness. They notice the first impression right away, even if they don’t say anything. If the outside feels dated, cluttered, too dark, or poorly maintained, it can make the business feel less current before anyone has even stepped inside. Clearly, you don’t want that here. So the first step is honestly just looking at the building with fresh eyes. What can be improved here?

The Facade Can Carry a Lot of the Update

Hopefully, it’s obvious enough here, but a commercial property can change pretty quickly when the exterior surfaces are improved. That might mean repainting, replacing worn panels, adding better materials around the entry, or making the frontage look more intentional instead of just leaving it as whatever came with the building.

Now, sure, these aren’t free; they can be expensive, but rebuilding and having to go through that song and dance is so much more expensive, though. But for older properties where the structure is still useful but the outside feels heavy or dated, then you could look into GRC cladding installation for your property, since this can be a good option because it updates the facade without turning the whole project into a full rebuild.

The Entrance Needs to Feel Easy to Approach

How approachable is your entrance, though? But really, think about it here, if the entrance is dark, awkward, worn down, or hidden behind too much visual clutter, the whole property feels less inviting. You’d be surprised how guilty a lot of businesses are for doing this, too.
